Lucky Cat Finds the Secret Garden! (Musical Review)

Recently, Lucky Cat was fortunate enough to travel to the Plaza Theatre in Cleburne, TX for a showing of the Tony award winning musical, The Secret Garden.

The most notable feature of this theatre is that it is a 'round' theatre, that is, the seats surround the stage from all sides so that everyone has a good seat. The director took full advantage of this unique setup, using sets that engaged the audience in every part of the room and clever chorus numbers where every row was faced with singers telling the story. The rich depth that this adds to the story needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.

While there were many good actors, Lucky Cat was especially fond of the part of 'Lily', played by Amy Atkins. The character is actually a ghost who can't directly interact with the characters, but the emotion brought into the role was quite impressive to Lucky Cat. (Note Lucky Cat wasn't the first reviewer to notice Amy's acting ability.)

There are a few more shows before The Secret Garden closes, it's worth the trip.

Jesus in Cowboy Boots!

For Lucky Cat's first travel adventure, no place seemed more appropriate than the beautiful, historic city of Paris... TX.
After visiting the historic Texas Eiffel Tower, it was time for some food. Lucky Cat's penchant for fish was indulged in excess at Don's Catfish dock, just a few miles outside of Paris.
The place was packed on this Friday night despite its bare white walls and stark flourescent lighting. The buffet of fried catfish, shrimp, and every fried side order imaginable made up for the lack of atmosphere. It was the perfect meal to give Lucky Cat energy for her next mission: finding Jesus.
The statue of Jesus in Cowboy boots was legendary in Paris, but no one seemed to know exactly where to find this phenomenom. Some had given up altogether, calling the statue an urban myth. After searching every inch of the local cemetary, Lucky Cat was beginning to agree with the naysayers. Then he saw it sticking out from the bottom of the robe of a rather effeminate looking statue carrying a cross. It was inconspicuous, but unmistakeable:

a cowboy boot on Jesus.

There's no place like Texas!
